How do edtech decision makers find, pilot, and buy products? What are the steps involved in edtech procurement? How are other districts buying edtech?
Edtech discovery, evaluation, piloting, and purchasing are key activities that help drive how any school powers learning with digital solutions, yet very few school districts have edtech procurement processes figured out! In 2022, The Decision Lab (TDL), an applied behavioral science research and innovation firm, coordinated with ISTE to interview and survey over 225 edtech decision-makers in K-12 school districts in the United States. Based on the data collected, TDL created a journey map for district decision-makers that describes the key steps in the edtech procurement process. The journey map describes four key steps in the procurement process – needfind, evaluate, pilot, and implementation. The map breaks each step down into discrete substeps and identifies sources of evidence, potential barriers, and drivers that affect edtech purchasing decisions.
Grounded in robust research, the procurement journey map offers edtech advisors and decision makers at any level practical considerations for improving edtech discovery and selection.
